become a part of
our community

Varenna promotes a sense of community by offering a range of on-campus classes, events, and off-site excursions. Meaningful friendships are cultivated, opportunity for physical activity is diverse, and personal spirituality practices are supported. Our full-time Program Director creates monthly schedules based on resident input and interests. Several clubs are resident led.

physical

Health and wellness are central to our daily programming, attracting residents who seek an active lifestyle. We offer daily fitness classes such as yoga, water aerobics, and Pilates. Personal fitness instruction is available, and our state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga studio accommodate both group and individual exercise. Bocce ball lessons and games are a daily onsite activity. Additionally, residents enjoy the numerous hiking trails in the nearby state and regional parks.

educational & cultural

On-site educational lectures, classes at the local university, visits to the Green Music Center, and excursions to the Santa Rosa Symphony and local theaters are just a few of the many cultural and educational opportunities in the area. Additionally, both domestic and international travel opportunities are coordinated for those interested.

social

Both planned and informal social gatherings are frequent, and new and fast friendships are formed. Residents come from a variety of backgrounds, accomplished careers and diverse locations, all of which lead to a stimulating social environment. Card and board games can be found underway in one of the shared spaces in the Main Building, happy hour with live music is enjoyed in the Grand Lobby, and poolside BBQ’s are held in the summer months. Wine tasting events are offered in the Wine Cave, paint nights are popular, and our chefs work with residents to plan special celebrations.

giving back

Varenna programming places strong emphasis on contribution to the greater community. Residents bring a lifetime of talents and experience that they may want to share. Our team searches for pursuits and projects through which individuals can find meaningful and enjoyable opportunities to do just that. Residents may find a sense of purpose by aiding underprivileged children in learning to read or serving on a local non-profit board.
